Scotland signs up 150th hotel to Fieldsports/Anglers Welcome Scheme

Want your gundog to accompany your stay in a Scottish B&B? Or perhaps you need somewhere secure to store your precious rifles in your hotel? The Scottish Country Sports Tourism Group has revealed that there are now 150 hotels in Scotland that have signed up to the Fieldsports/Angler Welcome Scheme.

Originally launched in 2007 after consultation with BASC, the Association of Deer Management Groups and the angling industry, the award is given to accommodation providers who go out of their way to welcome shooting, stalking, fishing and hunting visitors.

Establishments displaying the Fieldsports Welcome or the Anglers Welcome award logo will provide additional facilities such as legal storage safes for guns; a daily weather forecast; a hanging or storage facility for game; kennelling facilities for gundogs, local information on sporting opportunities, a freezer facility for bait or catch; facilities for gutting or preparing catches, or facilities for washing fishing tackle.

SCSTG Project Coordinator, Victoria Brooks commented: “Now in its sixth year, we are delighted that the scheme has been such a success. Scotland is one of the top sporting destinations in the world, so it is imperative we are able to offer visitors appropriate accommodation which will cater for their very specific needs.”
