Reflecting on Rigby’s impact at DSC 2024 with Managing Director, Marc Newton

We sit down with Marc Newton, Managing Director of Rigby, to reflect on the company’s standout presence at the Dallas Safari Club (DSC) Convention held in January. Marc shares insights into Rigby’s immersive booth experience, highlights from the show, and the brand’s ongoing commitment to fostering community connections.

Marc, how would you describe your overall experience at DSC 2024?

“It was undoubtedly the best show we’ve had in the modern era of Rigby. Our booth, spanning 80 by 20 feet, was a remarkable showcase of our brand. With a safari diorama theme featuring an African sunset backdrop, we created an immersive experience that included the Rigby Land Rover, a safari tent, Rigby Art, gun displays, and accessories from our Shikar Store. Engaging with clients and industry peers was immensely rewarding, and the energy at our booth made it a memorable event. Each year, I look forward to U.S. shows, but this one truly stood out as my favorite.”

What were some key highlights for Rigby at the event?

“Reconnecting with our valued clients was a major highlight. We unveiled exciting new products, generating significant buzz at our booth. Our annual VIP evening was another standout moment, allowing us to host top clients for intimate discussions about our business direction and upcoming releases. Beyond business, the opportunity to spend quality time with attendees was incredibly fulfilling; the people make these events special. I even managed to capture moments with my vintage Pentax K1000 camera, documenting the camaraderie and experiences that define Rigby.”

Can you tell us more about the reception of the new guns launched at the show?

“The reception for our new Shikari double rifle and Big Game Lightweight was overwhelmingly positive. We saw a surge in orders and received enthusiastic feedback, affirming that our offerings honor Rigby’s legacy. It’s gratifying to witness our products resonate with our clientele, and we’re excited about the future prospects for these rifles.”

How does Rigby differentiate itself in the gun trade industry?

“Our forward-thinking approach and inclusive team culture set us apart. We prioritize creating a welcoming atmosphere that resonates with our customers, fostering a sense of belonging and community. Throughout the show, our booth was bustling, with 13 staff members fully engaged in connecting with attendees. The results speak for themselves.”

You emphasize the importance of your team. How did they perform at the show?

“Our team truly is the heart of Rigby. We had a fantastic experience, forging new connections and deepening existing ones. We start each day with breakfast together, discussing our goals for the day. We also have a practice called ‘Rigby Rose and Thorn,’ where each member shares a highlight from the previous day and areas for improvement. This positive environment encourages open dialogue, fostering a successful team dynamic.”

What distinguishes Rigby in terms of its connection with customers?

“Our commitment to community is paramount. We consider our customers integral members of the Rigby family, bridging the gap between those within the company and those outside it. Whether it’s a young boy receiving a cap or a seasoned collector acquiring a Rising Bite, every interaction contributes to Rigby’s legacy. Our brand is defined by the collective efforts of our dedicated team and passionate customers.”

How does Rigby maintain connections within the gun trade industry?

“We cherish the friendships we have within the gun trade, and events like DSC are perfect for rekindling those bonds. I enjoy capturing moments with my camera to share with our friends in the industry. There’s a genuine sense of fellowship that makes our community unique.”

Looking ahead, what are Rigby’s goals for the coming year?

“We have exciting plans in the pipeline as we prepare for our 250th anniversary next year—a significant milestone for our company. While I can’t share all the details yet, we’re eager to unveil what we’ve been working on.”
